Meet Chef Judy
Chef Judy spent over a decade creating Asian-inspired cakes before being diagnosed with lupus, an autoimmune condition that led her to start eating gluten-free.
But the hardest part wasn’t just giving up gluten. It was realizing how being gluten free made her feel excluded—different desserts, awkward explanations, and shared moments that she didn't feel part of.
So she created Roots In Rice to raise the standard on gluten free cakes and end the need for separate desserts.

Absolutely incredible. My friend and I made this for a surprise birthday party. I’m gluten intolerant and wanted to be able to eat some of the cake. We made it and everyone, even the gluten eaters, loved it! The texture is spongy and the taste is not too sweet but delicious. I couldn’t recommend it more. I’m sad that this flavor is getting discontinued (per social media) but I will buy one of the other flavors next time for my own birthday.

But with some parchment lining & longer bake time (an hour), it came out beautifully. I made cream cheese frosting & topped with dark chocolate chips which complemented the matcha flavor so well. I can’t wait to try the other flavors!
